What does your poop tell you about your body? Gross but important

Have you heard of the Bristol stool classification?

A normal looking stool is in the type 3-4 category wherein the stool is soft, smooth and sausage-like.

Having a hard or difficult to pass stool is in the Type 1 to 2 category. This would have a lumpy consistency.

Types 5-7 are on the opposite side of the spectrum from soft to severe diarrhea.

This classification is a useful tool to determine your gastrointestinal health, and indicates if you are drinking optimal amounts of water and eating foods with adequate fiber.

It’s important to know that what you eat and medications you take will affect the color of your stool.
